What are the Creative Industries?

The creative industries are the parts of our economy where creative skills are at the fore: visual arts, design and architecture; film, TV and radio; advertising and marketing; music and performing arts; writing, publishing and print media; digital media; heritage and culture; and community festivals and events. The creative industries make a significant contribution to the economy of the Central West.

Hill End Press

Artists Bill Moseley and Genevieve Carroll create and sell distinctive hand printed letterpress cards from their studio in Hill End. Printing on a vintage Gordon Platen press, their paper art is sold through the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Library, Berkelouws, Bay Tree, Pulp, MOMA and other outlets, as well as online.

Through their gallery in Hill End they also sell other hand made art pieces such as quirky brooches and hand-printed silk scarves. Their print making studio produces bespoke cards and prints and provides space for visiting artists. They also run workshops for schools combining Hill End art history with photography, sculpture or printmaking.

The village of Hill End, long an inspiration to artists and with its own rich mining history, is an idyllic and appropriate setting for a business that combines art and old industrial printing techniques. Hill End is still home to nearly two dozen accomplished, practicing artists.

Genevieve says: "We are in this very small country town, but we are reaching people nationally and internationally. There is possibility to have this country lifestyle and not be out of the loop, so to speak. The great inspiration here is that every part of it: where we live, what our business brings to us and the community, all informs our art. It is in this circular movement, constantly flowing."
