Arts and Health

The development and support of arts within the health and disability sectors in the Central West is currently one of the four key areas of project work for Arts OutWest.

In recent years projects have included visual arts skills development and exhibitions for people with disabilities, forums exploring arts and disabilities partnerships for the region, and a major pilot program to embed arts activity within the re-developed Bathurst Health Service.

Bathurst Arts and Health Program

Launched 2008 and based on out Bathurst Health Service, the program integrates arts activities into the health services including palliative care, mental health, disability services, Aboriginal maternal and infant health as well as the general environment of the hospital.

Orange Arts and Performance Working Group

Arts OutWest in engaged in the Orange Arts and Performance working group for the new Orange Hospital on the Bloomfield campus. This exciting new program has included arts elements in the design of the new hospital, especially looking at elements that link the existing mental health services on site with the new facilities.
The successful Weaving Wellbeing community arts workshops have included health consumers from Orange and Condobolin in making both terrazzo pavers and large woven sculptures for the space.
In 2011-12 Arts OutWest is auspicing funds for this project from Arts NSW on behalf of the working group.
