M/s Dianne Colman

Description: After a considerable number of years working as a traditional animator, storyboard artist, character designer and animation teacher for Australian and American animation companies such as Hanna Barbera and Walt Disney, I chose a new direction in life and embraced the challenges of Fine Art. I now work under my married name of Colman (previously Rudder). My preferred medium is oil on canvas and my subject matter is primarily figurative. A sense of animation and frivolity is present in much of my work although my 'tongue in cheek' approach to subject matter sometimes tends to touch on sensitive social and religious issues. People's mannerisms and idiosyncrasies are of constant intrigue (A smile form the viewer of my work is my greatest reward). More recently my interests have turned to sculpture. I have experimented with clay, hebel, cement and plaster. I find working in the round with new and varied materials a wonderful experience.

She has a wide range of performance experience in festivals including Quest creative arts festival during the Sydney Olympics; the Black Stump creative arts festival 2001 and 2002; the ACAN Forest Edge Music Festival in 2001-2003; and the Yackandandah Folk Festival in 2002. Nerida's second CD entitled 'Journal' was released in 2003, in Canowindra. This album has received wide acclaim and has already had airplay on ABC's Radio National. Nerida's music fits within the genre of contemporary folk; she performs various covers as well as over 40 originals. Her influences include James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, the Indigo Girls, The Furies, and Marcia Howard. Nerida is not a 'covers' performer and doesn't 'play something we all know'. Although the covers Nerida plays are likely to be familiar to most listeners, her live performances usually mix these and her own material. Nerida's diverse performance experience has honed her to be a real crowd pleaser. Her clear vocal lines have managed to silence the noisiest pub crowds. Nerida's latest CD was produced by well-known folk singer-songwriter, Rory Ellis: with additional instrumentation by some well known musicians including Dave Steel and Stuart Speed. This album is the record of a personal journey. The ten original songs are raw and real: celebrating the good gifts of family, nature and the comfort of spirituality; as well as wrestling with the pain of loss, loneliness and brokeness. Although the subject matter is quite personal, the material has been well received by audiences at festivals, pubs, schools and the like. 'Living Desert', Nerida's first album, was released at the end of 2000. this CD has a strong taste of the Australian outback, with a bit of traditional Irish and African flavouring thrown in. Feature song 'Eternity's Calling', a Celtic celebration of life and nature, can be downloaded from Nerida's website.

The scale of my work varies from about a metre to much larger works such as the 4 1/2 metre piece commissioned for Wagga Civic Centre (wood), Marble Man sculpture project for Orange (wood and metal), Age of Fishes Museum, Canowindra (metal). My work is influenced by German expressionists and primitive artists, is largely figurative, with forms chainsawn from wood or assembled from metal already aged in a past life. I am for a timeless quality in my work, to talk of the aspects of our lives through history that don't change versus the things that do. I teach TAFE, have given workshops to various community groups, and work collaboratively with painter Lucy Buttenshaw creating painted sculptures, ceramics, conducting workshops and coordinating murals.

Mrs Georgia Mansur
Web: www.georgiamansur.com.au

Description: Georgia Mansur: Fine Arts and Design Paintings can be viewed at Moulton Galleries - Mosman, Gallery Six - Mona Vale, Capercaillie Gallery - Hunter Valley, and selected wineries in Mudgee. For the last 10 years, I have been focusing on mastering techniques and learning about different mediums, now I feel I have the ability to express more of myself, and how I view the world. In my paintings, I want to express the spontaneous emotion of what I feel inside when I first looked at something, whether it was amusement, inspiration, loneliness or wonder. It is my way of exploring and connecting with the world and I hope that my work in some way touches others and makes them feel or think about things they wouldn't otherwise. I am an independent visual artist (painter) working in watercolour, pastels, acrylic and mixed media. Former Arts OutWest Board member and active in the Mudgee Community. Has had successful exhibitions in Mudgee, Orangem Tamworth, Moree and Sydney. Experienced in design work for lables, brochures, newsletter, etc. Contact artist directly for more information.

M/s Marilyn Nicholls

Description: Textile Artist Marilyn works predominately with alpaca fibre, but incorporates wool and other fibres such as silk, mohair, cotton and also some synthetic fibres in her pieces. She enjoys creating wearable art as well as some practical pieces. Using her experience with embroidery, Marilyn also creates fantasy pieces which can be framed or worn. These works involves using threads to embellish textured felt. It gives her a sense of painting with fibres. Because natural fibres take up dyes well, Marilyn also enjoys experimenting with a wide range of bright dye colours to create colourful scarves and jackets. In creating garments she will sometimes use the traditional felting technique and at other times use the Nuno felting technique which creates lightweight fabric.
