Canowindra’s Big Brain Unveiled

Coffs Harbour maybe famous for the Big Banana and Nambour up north is home to the Big Pineapple but on Thursday Canowindra will be renown for something big too – the Big Brain.

After participating in a series of Arts OutWest’s Celebrate Ability Installation Workshops over four weeks, six members of the Central West Brain Injury Action Group are ready to put the final touches on their creation – Big Brain.

This installation measuring 900mm x 600mm x 600mm was the brain child of the members of the injury action group, according to Celebrate Ability Artist and Project Coordinator Ken Hutchinson.

“These guys came together to participate in a series of workshops and when I asked them what they wanted to create they said “why not a brain?”

“It was a great idea as everyone was able to work on one piece of the brain, which will come together to make a whole on Thursday.

“Each of the artists was also able to carve onto the brain where their injury occurred, which has been quite therapeutic.”

Canowindra’s Big Brain will be unveiled on Thursday August 24, from 10 – 2pm at the Morbel Hall, 2km out of Canowindra off the Mandurama Road. All media are welcome to attend and see the Big Brain before it’s transported to Victoria for the regional arts disability festival, Awakenings in mid October.
