Venue: Bathurst Museum & Archives Address: East Wing, Bathurst Court House, Russell Street Town: Bathurst The Exchange Date of function: Thursday July 17 Presenter: Anvil Creek Theatre Contact: 02 6362 1786 Description: Anvil Creek Theatre is a small company from the Hunter Valley, NSW. We first performed The Exchange, (a play set within a pub, performed within a pub restaurant) at the Royal Federal Hotel Branxton in November 2001 for what we thought would be a few Christmas shows for the local population. The Exchange was so well received that we did nine performances before taking the play further into rural NSW performing in Wollombi, Scone, The Sons of the Soil Hotel in Coonamhle, Walgett, The Geurie Bowling Club and The Blue Wren Winery in Mudgee. We have also performed in Newcastle and at the Mad Cow Theatre, Gosford, as well as in Sydney at The Palace Hotel, Mortlake and the Exchange Hotel, Balmain. In early 2004 we travelled to South Australia where we performed at The Adelaide Fringe Festival. There's something at once consoling and terrifying about the abject lack of happenings in the nondescript nothing-town we inhabit, at least for the duration of the performance. This is no town and everytown; nowhere and everywhere you’ve ever been, in this wide, brown, unforgiving land. A baggy-faced, retired shearer, a semi-lane ringer and a lonely, but resigned, young barman have come to rightly expect never-ending nothingness, they are the last word in living, breathing existentialism! The characters are instantly identifiable, it's as if we've all not only met them, but know them, well, even if we've never, actually, met them; we might recognize them from the pub, railway-station, ,park-bench, or a Henry Lawson poem; its almost as if they could be members of our own family, they ring with such familiarity! The premise, and script, is, of course, quintessentially, self-deprecatingly and, thus, charmingly, heart-warmingly, incorrigibly, unmistakably, unavoidably Aussie hawing started life in the Royal Federal Hotel, Branxton, three years ago and having toured rural town and country pubs and clubs, much as the old shearers it so redolently portrays would've. Rosannah DeLuce, a distraught young woman, who has fled all the way from Arizona to escape her impending marriage, winds up in Alaska, on the doorstep of the reclusive Henry Harry. Thrown together in the confines of the snow bound cabin they alternately repel and attract each other as they explore the pain of the past and, in time, consider the possibilities of the present. Brilliant Traces is kooky, weird and off-kilter, but if taken in the right spirit, illuminates how we live today. Venue: Cabonne Council Chambers Address: 99-101 Bank street Town: Molong The Exchange Date of function: Saturday July 19 Presenter: Anvil Creek Theatre Contact: 6344 1009 Description: Anvil Creek Theatre is a small company from the Hunter Valley, NSW.
